What The *%#! Is An Archetype?

The 12 archetypes used in the Brand Archetype Audit were first defined by psychologist Carl Jung. They represent distinct personas or sets of characteristics that emerge over and over again in the human subconscious through dreams, myths and stories, and even advertising.

To see the archetypes in action, just look around and you’ll inevitably bump into them. For example, the hit movie Star Wars is an archetypal story with the experienced, wise “Sage” Yoda and the young, motivated “Hero” Luke. In the commercial world, Coca-Cola embodies the idealistic, heartwarming “Innocent” archetype, while Jeep cars champion the rugged, independent spirit of the “Explorer”.
